Oh My God! An Entry!
I’m not known for posting much, but I’m gonna try to occasionally change that :)

This last weekend was ... fabulous, wonderful and all sorts of awesome since I was Conflikt 2. I cannot even find the words to say how much fun I had, seeing old friends and new as well as hearing new songs and old. Being on the concom meant I missed out on a couple of things that I’d wished to get to but such is the life :) I still am running on the con-high.

Rick (our con chair) said that anything which happens twice is a tradition. Apparently I’m starting my own tradition of writing a song at or after each Conflikt. Both of them are just lyrics at this point, and I will be trying to get them to have melody and music at some point (hopefully with the help of some of my friends who are better at it than I am). Since I never posted the one from Conflikt 1, I’ll put it below too followed by the one written this weekend.

Any comments (either compliments or critiques) will be greatfully accepted.

Con Woes, written after Conflikt 1 by JT Traub
[note: the first verse has two versions, depending on the situation, also note the chorus changes slightly each time through]

A. Woke up this morning sore to my toes,
A. Back aching straight from my butt to my head.
A. Was I sleeping on rocks or on boulders? Oh!
A. I spent the whole weekend in too firm a bed.

B. Woke up this morning sore to my toes,
B. Back aching straight from my butt to my head.
B. Was I sleeping on water or maybe air? Oh!
B. I spent the whole weekend in too soft a bed.

Creaked as I unbent, standing up straight
Knee sharply twinging, my weight it bears.
Was I trapped in a coffin eternally? Wait!
I spent the whole weekend in hotel chairs.

Chorus:
Listen my friends to this con-goer’s woes,
To the aches and the ills that all fandom knows,
I did this last year and the same happened then,
Oh why did I go and do it again?

Sinuses aching, they bring me no joy
The headache it brings, is really not fair!
Have I come down with a cold or a flu? Oy!
I spent the whole weekend breathing dry air.

Croaking and hoarse, I sound such a fright,
Can’t sing one more note if given the choice
Did my vocal chords atrophy while I slept? Right!
I spent the whole weekend abusing my voice.

Chorus:
Listen my friends to this con-goers woes,
To the aches and the ills that all fandom knows,
I did this last month and the same happened then,
Oh why did I go and do it again?

Final Chorus:
Listen my friends to this con-goers woes,
To aches and ills that all fandom knows,
I did this last week and the same happened then,
But I know that next con, I’ll go do it again.
Oh I know that next con, I’ll go do it again.

Music Sets Me Free, written after Conflikt 2 by JT Traub

When I was young, my parents shared their views.
They said the world was made in black and white.
But all they showed me was a world of spite
While I saw shades of grey in many hues.

Chorus:
You can say I’m rough around the edges,
But that’s just fine by me.
You can call me just a little crazy,
But music sets me free.

As I grew up many more folks would try
To make me walk in step or to their drum
Tried hard to hold me down beneath their thumb
But all I wanted was to learn to fly.

(Chorus)

At last one day I heard the music play
And found the place I’d looked for all my life.
My mind it eased and let go of the strife,
I’ll keep the music going come what may.

(Chorus x 2)

Holy shite, you're still alive!

Glad to hear you're sounding happy, babe. (=

Hey! I've tried to ping you now and then on IM when I see you but you never respond. How've you been? And, of course I'm still alive.. zombiehood is just not my style :)

Ugh. I swear, Adium thinks my IM's are yummy. It's the only way so many of them never make it through...

Things are good. They're hectic, as always, but good. How've you been?

Sad that your IM is such a pain in the butt. I've been doing pretty good.. Spending most of my time working and doing the occasional convention (and helping put together Conflikt). Glad to hear things are good for you.. We need to find another way to keep in touch though if your IMs won't work reliably.

Both of these are great. The first one embodies the playfulness of filk, and the second, the truthiness. I hope to hear them sometime (and sing along).

OMG, a Post -- indeed! I was going to poke you this week, knowing that you've probably been up to your eyes in con biz until the fulfillment of this weekend past.

Hugs!

*hugs* Well, hearing them will involve me a) finding a tune for them and b) learning said tune -- hopefully on the guitar so I can actually play them myself :)

And yes, I've been up to my eyeballs in a lot of different things, con included. Work, con, general life. *hugs* Of course, now starts planning for Conflikt 3 :)

Word up! on two. Ironically I think the songs for me apply to opposite cons... last year was when I discovered the full power of the magic in the music, and this year, well, I'm kinda physically out of sorts.

But still. I damn well bought my 2010 reg before leaving... and this time I paid with a check! :) (Not your fault, I know... )

*nod* I've always known the power of magic in music, but this year's when that song decided to come out :)

Nice! Funny how we spent the weekend together but didn't really interact...

Thank you. I think I spent most of the weekend in a (good) haze of 'oooh shiny', so I'm not sure I interacted with anyone all that much though I do seem to recall concentrating time/attention more on those folks that I didn't know all that well/don't see regularly.

You! You need to help me write my Musical!

*chuckle* Thank you for the compliment.
