I've mentioned it elsewhere, but no reason why I shouldn't say it here, too.

In this northern European country of mine, I'm a moderate conservative. Socialism and even communism are real political forces in this country.

When I look at U.S. politics, I, despite being conservative in this country, find more commonality with the Democratic party points of view than those of the Republicans. But I find familiar points in both camps. What's more, at least in the reports that I read in the European press, I do not recognize true socialism anywhere.

I find some comfort in the fact that the presidential race was so close. The country is not overwhelmingly this or that. I think it is possible to engage in rational discussion, now, instead of flinging of invective and abuse. Rational debate is slow, but I feel it could work.

The nation is ready to be either more polarised than ever, or build more stronger union than ever. The question is, will the individual persons permit this, are they willing to put away the campaigning hatred and start seeking common ground.
