I have always, always loved the song Moondance by Van Morrison. For the past couple months though, my brain has been saying, y'know, you really need a werewolf parody of that..

Well, my brain finally coughed up the goods (much like a hairball).

Well it's a marvelous night to go prowling,Collapse )

I'm not 100% certain it's 'done' yet, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Edit: After a bit of fiddling I came up with a better second line of the couplet that preserved the original internal rhyme.. Happy making :)
Edit the second: I am also perfectly happy with people offering critique where deserved on any lyrics I post here (one person commented privately that they weren't always willing to offer critique unless they knew it was looked for, so I wanted to clarify that).

I’m not known for posting much, but I’m gonna try to occasionally change that :)

This last weekend was ... fabulous, wonderful and all sorts of awesome since I was Conflikt 2. I cannot even find the words to say how much fun I had, seeing old friends and new as well as hearing new songs and old. Being on the concom meant I missed out on a couple of things that I’d wished to get to but such is the life :) I still am running on the con-high.

Rick (our con chair) said that anything which happens twice is a tradition. Apparently I’m starting my own tradition of writing a song at or after each Conflikt. Both of them are just lyrics at this point, and I will be trying to get them to have melody and music at some point (hopefully with the help of some of my friends who are better at it than I am). Since I never posted the one from Conflikt 1, I’ll put it below too followed by the one written this weekend.

Any comments (either compliments or critiques) will be greatfully accepted.

This has been all over my friends list over the past day, so, what the heck :)

Below are the 259 songs which have been nominated for a Pegasus Award.

If you have heard the song put it in Italics.
If you have sung along to it in public (or at least the chorus) put it in Underline.
If you have sung it (in public, all the words, with people looking at you) put it in Bold

If you want to check the lyrics of many of these songs out, check out the Pegasus song page.

259 songs below the cutCollapse )
There were actually far more on that list than I thought there would be (which really shouldn't surprise me, but does anyway).  Of course, now I want to remedy the ones I haven't even heard (or don't recall hearing, etc) :)

I blame cadhla for Oh, Michelle. Then, hsifyppah defended vixyish with Damnit, Seanan. Of course, cadhla couldn't let that lie and fired back with Oh, Brooke. hsifyppah, being herself, had the response Oh, Seanan M... Then came sheistheweather with Clever Brooke. Someone else, scifantasy, chimed in with Listen Girls aka War Correspondance. Well, all of those had me rolling on the floor as I read them (and not so coincidentally scaring the hell out of my cats). They insisted on having their say.

The movie for this Sunday (tomorrow) will be War starring Jet Li.

I’ll be going to see it at the Regal Alderwood Stadium 7 (this is the *other* Alderwood Mall cinema, not the big one on the Alderwood mall lot itself, but the one on the street behind it). I’ll be going to the 11:50 AM showing and hope to see some folks there!

I’ve seen this one on various of my friends journals over the past day or so, so..

Usually when I take these Meyers-Briggs type tests, I score high on E on the E/I axis, and high N on the N/S axis, but usually right around the middle of the T/F and J/P axes though I tend to lean more often than not to T and P. What amused me about this time is that I seem to have moved toward the center of the N/S axis as well.

It is my utter pleasure to introduce the two newest members to my house.

Emma is a brown/black tortie who is very very sweet.

Tamara is a black/white tuxedo, who is very very inquisitive and also sweet.
TamaraCollapse )

Both of them are busily exploring every nook and cranny of the house. I had tried to keep them in the library room to let them adjust more slowly, but, being cats, while I made dinner, they opened the door to the library and let themselves out into the rest of the house. I figure if they are ready to explore, then I’m not gonna stop them even if I try.

What:  Seattle Area House Filk!
Where: JT's house in Lynnwood/Everett
When:  Saturday, July 21, 1PM until we stop (need to be quieter after about 9PM)
Why: to sing and filk of course!

I will have some beverages on hand, and will probably do the 'order some pizza' deal for dinner.  If people wish to bring food and or beverages that is fine.   Please if you do bring foods, make sure they are labelled to help people who have allergies avoid things that are bad for them.

As of now there are no pets in the house.  However, I am anticipating that changing, though I don't know if it will have changed before the house filk.  If it does change, there will be 2 cats in the house.

Please RSVP to me via email at jtraub at dragoncat dot net in order to let me know you are planning on showing up, and so I can give you directions.  I now live in Lynnwood/Everett so if you had previous directions from me they won't work!  Also, Google and the other map companies don't have my new location in their map database yet, so you cannot find me via them!  You MUST RSVP to get directions.

Please do bring extra seating if you have it.  I have some seating, but more would be helpful.

Thanks to technoshaman, omahas, and elfs for pointing this out.

Apparently Menu Foods, one of the largest pet food manufacturer contractors which provides foods for a wide range of brands, including Nutro, Eukanuba, and Iams has issued a recall on a wide selection of their wet/moist food products.

The AP story about this has a link to the Menu Foods site where you can see what brands/product codes have been issued under the recall.

Please pass this along to folks you know with pets so that they are aware.

Today, at just after 5 PM, Belle passed away, after being put to sleep at the vet’s office.

She has been slowly becoming sicker over the past couple of weeks, losing weight and muscle mass. Over the past weekend, she began refusing food and the medicine which she needed and told us it was time for us to let her go.

We had our sweet Belle for 14 of her 16 years, after rescuing her from death-row in the Pittsburgh pound. We loved her deeply, and will miss her greatly.

Good night sweet belle.Collapse )

Melissa has posted the information about the 5th Annual Play Hooky day in the seattlecats journal, at this location.

We’ve been doing this event for 5 years and it’s been a blast each and every year. Please take a moment to read the information and then reply to the post in the seattlecats journal (or the equivalent post in tabbifli‘s journal, here). She will only be taking RSVP’s from those two journals, so do *not* reply here, but go reply in one of those two if you wish to be counted!

Looking forward to seeing folks there!

The following is cut/pasted from Melissa’s (tabbifli) journal.

--------------------------------------

JT (kendaer) has a birthday on June 30. On July 2nd, after the movie (Superman Returns, details will be posted on seattlecats as usual) we’re having a get together at our place. There will be food (grilled meat, fruit, some miscellaneous veggies) and non-alcoholic beverages provided.

If I can find a way to heat the pool, that’ll get set up, too. I’m not holding my breath, though - a web search didn’t turn up anything helpful, and the solar cover is really not sufficient.

The movie will be up in Lynnwood, about 11:30. The get-together will be back at our place in Kirkland afterward, so probably around 2 (depending on how long the movie runs and the time of the actual start). There’s street parking available. For directions to our house, please email tabbifli AT livejournal DOT com.

If you think you’ll make it, please let us know (post, IM, email, call, say in person - whatever!). We’d rather not run out of food :) (Those of you who know me know that’s really not a joke).

Oh, yeah. He’ll be 38.

(What the heck.. I figure I already know everyone on my list who want's something like this, but.. feel free to surprise me :))

[Yanked from a number of different sources]

There's at least 1 person on your LiveJournal that wants to date you or sleep with you.

So lets play........ FRIENDS w/BENEFITS

The rules are simple...

If you want to date the person who posts this, post a comment saying "I'm yours"

If you just want to sleep with the person and stay friends, post a comment that says "I'd hit it"

SCARED??? You ONLY live ONCE!

THE TWIST IS YOU HAVE TO REPOST THIS!!! & see who replies.

All responses will be screened!

[NB: I'm also cool with folks saying that they are not interested in any of the above, or supplying other things they might be interested in (dinner? movie? coffee? etc) -- Note, this is more something to satisfy my amusement quotient for the day than to necessarily make a list or anything.]

Found this via one of the people on my friends list. It does facial recognition against a database of celebrity photos. Kinda amusing. It does require a free registration.

Try it here

Trying various photos of me got very different results ranging from Charles Manson to Edgser Djikstra to Ringo Starr (on two different pics) to Bjorn Borg to Dennis Ritchie.

All in all an amusing toy :)

The housefilk at my place on February 18th is only two weeks away.

If you have not yet RSVP’d to let me know you’ll be there, please do so now so I have a count for food. As of now, I have about 12 people who have said they will make it.

Directions to my house are available via email.

The housefilk will run from 1 PM until ~9 PM at night (one of my housemates is a morning bird rather than a night owl). We do have 4 cats who live in the house, and while I’ll endeavour to keep them out of the active filking space, if anyone is allergic they should be aware.

Please do not bring food items since one of the people in the house is *severely* allergic to nut oils and other substances. Food and drink will be provided, so if there are any dietary restrictions or drink preferences among those attending, please let me know when you RSVP.

If you will need crash space and have not made arrangements with runnerwolf then please let me know and she will contact you for making arrangements.

Looking forward to seeing folks then!

Unfortunately, I have been called out of town on the 22nd through 25th of February.

At this point, I have two options.

1) I can move the housefilk to be one-week earlier, on Feb 18th.

2) Beth has volunteered to host the filk on the original day, but then I wouldn't be able to attend.

Obviously, I'd like to move it to the 18th, so I'd like to know from people if that would work alright for them?

Currently I have a small but signifigant number of people confirmed as attending. If moving this would cause you to be unable to attend, please let me know.

If you could make it on the 18th but weren't able to on the 25th, also please let me know so I can decide exactly what the best course to take here is.

Thanks!

I will be hosting a house-filk at my house in Kirkland, WA on February 25th.

The house-filk will run from 1 PM until ~9PM (due to one of the members of the household being a morning bird rather than a night owl and wanting to get to sleep early :))

The house is occupied by 4 cats in addition to the humans, but we do our best to keep the allergens down.

runnerwolf, who hosted December’s house-filk, has graciously offered to provide sleeping accomodations for those who need crash space. Her house is a cat-free area. Unfortunately, I’m not able to provide crash-space at my place currently.

Please let me know if you plan on attending so that I can make sure I know how many people are going to show up and so that I can provide directions to my house. If you will need crash space, please mention that as well so that I can make sure runnerwolf knows and so that she can arrange specifics with you.

Knowing in advance will also allow me to set up lunch and dinner and anything else necessary. This will not be a pot-luck as one of the people in the house has a severe nut allergy, and even things with a minor amount of nuts can release oils into the air which will cause problems.

Hope to see folks then.

So, tonight was the Duran Duran concert. It definately had some good, some bad, and some just downright bizarre moments.

First the good, the headline band itself. Not much to say other than that they rocked, and rocked, and rocked some more. They did a large mixture of old stuff, opening with "Reach up for the Sunshine", and doing a bunch of other songs (5 total I think) off of their new album. They also did Notorious, Save a Prayer, Wild Boys, and a few others, and finally ended with Rio. For all the rest of it, it was a lot of fun, and my right ear still hasn't recovered full bass-response :) Simon, the stage-calisthentics were amusing :) At least you 'dance' better than the guy from the intro band.

The bad has to do with the seating we got. While it turned out for the best (we were off to the left side of the stage (if you were facing the stage) and 8 rows back from the floor), it wasn't what we *thought* we were getting for the price we paid and we weren't offered floor seats as it turns out some others were, so it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. In the end we were able to see enough that we enjoyed ourselves however. The food was also not the quality I'd expect from a VIP dinner and was more of a buffet style.

And then the bizarre.. the opening act, god bless their pea-pickin' hearts, "I am a Robot", a 'band' out of LA (I think).

Notes for the lead 'singer':
1) Take the marbles out of your mouth. It might work for Bob Dylan, but you aren't Bob Dylan.
2) Please use the restroom before coming on stage, alternating between looking constipated and jumping around like a six-year-old who has to pee was distracting.
3) Please take your anti-convulsive meds before coming on stage.
4) It's called lead 'singer' for a reason. Talking, except for a rap song, or yelling, do not constitute singing.

Notes for the rest of the band:
1) Please don't take your fashion hints from Bubba and Jim-bob (the drummer had a CAT cap or something similar)
2) Please fire the lead singer and the lyricist.. the rest of you were pretty good musically.

anyway, with that, I now go to bed.. I have a long day releasing code tomorrow :)

I'm posting this just so that it gets a bit more exposure as I have friends who read my journal who don't read those of some of my other friends and I think this is an important topic.

I am saddened, much like other people, due to the way the election turned out. I am saddened, much like other people, that the initial reactions I've heard from both sides have been to step up the extremism even further.

My wife Melissa (tabbifli), posted something here that pretty much covers how I feel as well.

I think that there needs to be a more moderate choice than either of the two extremes. I've had friends whom I've had to argue with that just because I'm a Democrat by choice doesn't mean I believe in a socialist state or (as the Republicans have painted it), 'tax and spend liberalism'. I believe in government enough to get the jobs that need doing done and no more. I believe in spending what needs to be spent to do those jobs correctly, tempered by a desire for fiscal responsibility. I don't fit either party. I also don't fit any of the third parties because all of them have philosophies that are either too narrow to address the diversity of the world, or rely on human nature being other than what it is. Hopefully there will be enough people who think and feel similarly, that there needs to be a moderate and centrist position, that something can be done over the next while.

Please go read what Melissa wrote and contribute your thoughts and comments. Thanks.

During the planning for the Great Recarpeting, we decided to replace the desk and bookshelf in my downstairs office. The desk and bookshelf are very nice, but they are both darker finishes than anything else in our house and won’t go quite as well with the lighter carpeting we are putting in place.

Therefore, we’re offering them free to the first person who is willing and able to come pick them up and remove them over this next week. If we have no offers, they will be given away to Goodwill.

The desk is 54“Wx29.5”Hx30“D and has a black top and dark oak colored sides.

The bookshelf is the same color and measures 30.5”Wx72“Hx16”D.

Both are fairly heavy although the table can at least come somewhat apart.
If you want them you will need to move them yourself, but they are free to anyone who does.
Let me know here if you want to take them.

Thanks!

So, we (tabbifli, myself and Alex) are having our basement recarpeted.

This of course means that we need to get all of our furniture moved out from our basement, get all our old carpet ripped up, and then we want (well need really) to paint/seal the floor with a specific type of paint that will pretty much guarantee to keep mold/mildew/etc out.

Most of this can be done ourselves, with the exception of moving all of the big furniture, and that’s where (hopefully) you all come in.

This Monday, that being Labor Day, we would like anyone who is willing to come help us move stuff to show up here at 11 AM and help. We’ll provide lunch (in the form of pizza) and drinks. We’ll get stuff moved and (if possible) even start on the carpet rip-up and removal. With a bit of help I think we can get this done in order to have the carpet installers come in sometime around the 15th or the 17th (We need to get the furniture moved out this weekend so we have time to paint/seal the floor and let it dry).

So, if you’re willing to help, please reply and let us know you’ll be here! Please only let us know if you are sure you’ll be able to make it so that we can figure out if we’ll have sufficient manpower to get it done. More showing up isn’t so much a problem and will help us get done faster, but if we don’t have sufficient people confirm we’ll probably put this off until after Melissa and my and Alex’s trip to Phoenix at the end of the month to visit her mother.

If you cannot make it, that’s fine, but if you can that’ll be muchly appreciated by all of us.

If you need direction to our place, let me know in the comments and I will provide them to you, but I’d rather not post them publically (this post is not friends locked).

Thanks!

So, every once in a while I feel the need to share my current net addictions with folks in hopes of garnerning more cool people hanging out in the same cool places I do :)

If you do end up in any of those games, let me know.. It's not usually hard to find/figure out who I am in a given place, but I've listed my characters above for reference. Drop me a line here or in those games and if I can, I'll help you out or point you at info or whatever if you need.
